As you all know we are drawing near to the birthday of baby Baird. He will be here no later than the fifteenth which is this coming Wednesday! Megan had a doctors appointment on Thursday this week and we received some news that sort of bummed us out. The doctor will be performing a Cesarean section for the delivery. The main reason for this is that the little guy has broad shoulders and his head is big as well. They estimate he is around 8lbs 9oz which is very average for babies born nowadays. He has been a trooper, along with his mother, he has been kicking Megan nonstop now for the past few weeks making us believe he has put in his two weeks notice and is ready for his new job outside of the womb! We cannot wait to have the little guy around and are prepared to feed, change diapers, not sleep, and do what ever it takes to ensure the safety and health of our son. The only reason we are kind of disappointed about the C-Section is the fact that it has not been mentioned once by our OB and we believed that Megan was on track for a vaginal birth. Most babies born in todays world (in the US at least) are through a C-Section and it is obviously a very safe and sound procedure, we have been preparing for labor and all of the other things a normal birth brings and it's just somewhat disappointing we may not get to carry out any of the things we have prepared ourselves for. The main thing as with any pregnant woman is the health and safety of both her and the baby. We trust our doctors' medical opinion and she had a hard time telling Megan that she thought she should perform a C-Section because she new we wanted a vaginal birth if possible. There is still a possibility that Megan could go into labor before the Wed 10:30 surgery. Right now she is 50% effaced and about 2 centimeters dilated. The sonogram technician said that baby Baird's head was pretty far down so Megan's body is preparing for birth as well as baby Baird! If she does go into labor Dr. Maturo said that she would let the labor go and progress unless it stalls or there are any other signs that it will not progress normally. So C-Section or vaginal delivery, we just would like a healthy baby and a healthy Meggy!
On another important note we have decided on a name for our little man! Drum roll please.... And the winner of the baby name lottery is...... Jackson James Baird!!! We had a terribly difficult time choosing a name for our son! We had a never ending list of girls names and when we found out we were having a boy we were stumped. We had a few baby name books and such and we went through each multiple times and nothing caught our eye, so we had to go to Borders and purchased another book that had a more comprehensive list of names. So after we narrowed it down to a few Jackson just seemed to make us smile and it was something we could picture ourselves calling our son. James is the name of my father and we decided to stick with it for a middle name - early on we decided that if our child was a boy that "Adam" was not a very good middle name. I encourage you to try to find a name that goes with with it, as we had much trouble finding any names that it would disrupt the flow of!
