Ladies and Gentleman...We Have Movement!!!

Megan is 23 weeks today and began feeling movement yesterday while she was at work. At first we believed it was just gas but as it happened more frequently and consistently, we referred to our myriad of baby books to determine that baby Baird was kicking around! Megan felt like he was using her bladder as a punching bag! Baby is roughly a pound now!!! He is approximately eight inches long and has finger and toe nails. It has been found that fetal heart rates slow down while a mother is talking, proving that not only does he love momma Meg's voice but that it is soothing to him as well. According to one of our books his skin is a bit saggy(skin grows faster than fat) and there is not much fat developing right now, but beginning this week he'll start packing on the pounds! He will be about double the weight that he is now, so approximately two pounds! Megan is feeling very well overall, aside from some back pain she is having. We are looking into a pregnancy "belt" that should help support her expanding uterus and the ligaments that are attached to it. Everything is progressing as expected and we have an OB appointment a week from Wednesday with out doctor, Sharon Maturo. We feel blessed to have such a wonderful and caring doctor to help and support us through our first pregnancy. We have also been calling around day cares and will be setting up visits with them to talk and see how they operate so we can find a suitable place for our son to be while we are unable to be with him :(

Interesting fact-
A brown eyed couple can have a blue eyed child and a blue eyed couple a brown eyed child. Not one gene is responsible for eye or hair color. Most human traits are polygenic - a trait that is determined by more than one gene. Eye and hair color is a combination of many genes acting in a "layering" effect.

Week 22 Update

Okay, it's been a while since we last updated we apologize for our tardiness. Everything is going great with us, Meg is doing wonderful and looks so beautiful with her baby bump which is growing everyday! According to our baby books baby Baird is about 7.5 inches long from crown to bottom and weighs 12 ounces(3/4 a lb). For the first time throughout the pregnancy baby Baird really looks like a little baby! His teeth have formed underneath his gums and his eyes are completely developed, but the iris has no pigment. With a functioning liver and insulin producing pancreas, his sense of touch is developing day by day. According to the books he may even further establish his sense of touch by feeling his cute little face! Megan's body is blossoming and magnificently transforming day by day!

Interesting pregnancy fact in nature-
Why can't men get pregnant? Apparently scientist debate about this and have concluded that it is theoretically possible... However in nature the only male animal species to give birth are sea horses, pipefishes, and sea dragons.

We Have Finally Registered!!!

We have finally registered for our baby showers! This was an exciting and energy draining process for both of us, but absolutely amazing!!! Just seeing all of the baby clothing, bibs, blankies, pacifiers, toys, jumpers, onesies, bottles, diapers, bathing accessories, etc. greatly increased our anticipation and enjoyment of our first born child, son, and grandchild for our family! Picturing baby Baird wrapped up in a little hooded blanky in a little diaper with a baby Elmo on it just makes our hearts melt! We have registered at Target and Babies R' Us. Megan Heyer is the main registree and Adam Baird is the co-register.

IT'S A BOY!

Adam and I are pleased to announce that yesterday we found out we are having a baby boy! We had our 20 week sonogram and are happy to let everyone know that Baby Baird is healthy and growing! The technician measured his arms, legs and skull and let us know that he is right where he needs to be! She also checked for four heart valves(which were all there), two kidneys, a full bladder, a working digestive tract and a developing brain! The pictures are very clear so everyone should be able to tell what everything is. We have some legs, feet and hands shots. We have several profile shots as well! In one of the pictures he's sucking his thumb which we got to witness on the sonogram yesterday and you could actually see his tongue moving! Adam and I could not be happier and want to thank everyone for their love and support yesterday! We are excited that we're half way there!

These are all thumbnails of the sonogram photos we scanned and uploaded. To see a bigger representation of the photo simply click on it!
